Mapping Survival

This is the story of how the Suruí tribe, who live in the deep Amazon Rain Forest, are connecting to the modern world with Google Mapping while preserving their homeland and their culture. This video is excerpted from Trading Bows and Arrows For Laptops: Carbon Culture, which was produced by the award-winning Brazilian film-maker Denise Zmekhol of ZDFilms to document the realization of tribal chief Almir Surui's vision of creating a cultural map of the region. With the support of Google Earth Outreach, the map was created and the tribe is now a contributor to the global carbon market.
